Yesterday, a normal commute for a woman went drastically wrong. In Madrid, Spain as a fifty one year old woman was walking close to the subway tracks, she fainted and fell onto the tracks. No one pushed her on the tracks but somehow she fainted and happened to be right by the subway tracks. Before the next train came to that specific part of the tracks, an off-duty police officer alerted the train driver about the situation. Another officer jumped on the tracks and dragged the unconscious body of the woman to the other side. When the media interviewed the police officer who dragged the woman out, she referred to her as "completely dead weight". Without the help of that officer the woman would have just laid on the tracks because she was not able to move herself. There was only eighty meters left between the train and the woman's body. Considering the speed of the train, that would take only a few seconds to go eighty meters. Without the quick thinking of the officer to call the train driver, that train would have gone over the woman for sure. After the woman was helped off the tracks she was immediately revived and taken to the nearest hospital to cure minor injuries.

ReplyDeleteThis is amazing to hear, because a couple months ago I forgot who told me about a similar situation. In that situation the women who fell in the tracks was conscious and was not able to climb herself out, and yet no one tried to save her. It is amazing how quickly that officer had reacted and took responsibility to rescue and carry that unconscious body out of the tracks, putting his own life in danger. People like this "Restore faith in humanity."
ReplyDeleteIn the corrupt society that we live in, we often think about the restoration of humanity, and the absence of benevolence and virtue. Occasions like this one remind us that there is still hope, and that there is still good in society. The officer should be heroified for his quick reactions while he was off duty. It would have been nice to see this happen on that one incident similar to this one that took place in America. Instead of helping out the victim, the subway commuters watched and took pictures while a man was hopelessly fighting for his life.
ReplyDeleteThis article is really interesting and inspirational, that officer saved a women's life, and it was very courageous of him. That women would have gotten run over by a train and died, and it was not her fault that she could not move herself because she was unconscious, and it was the quick thinking of the officer that saved her life. He was very brave to jump onto the tracks and pull her body to the side, he risked his own life and could have gotten hit by the train as well. But he was courageous and I commend him for that. I hope one day I get the opportunity to save someone's life, and be as brave as he was.
ReplyDeleteThat has to be one of the luckiest ladies in the world. She was practically mere seconds away from being smashed under a train. If that police officer had hesitated for even a second, they both would have been dead. Thanks to the officer's quick reflexes and courage, she was able to save a person's life. If I was in her shoes, I would probably take too long analyzing the situation, thus not being able to save the woman's life. That is why being a police officer is definitely not one of my career choices.
ReplyDeleteIt is amazing to hear yet another heroic and courageous act done by a civilian, who in this case happens to be a police officer, to save another innocent human's life. If one thinks about it, there are so many remarkable heroic acts that go unnoticed every day, and I am glad this one has gained interest from the public. The alertness the off duty officer showed was key, as his quick thinking to call the train driver possibly saved the woman's life. The wildest of scenarios can take place daily, people just have to prepare themselves for the unexpected because there is no telling of what series of events can occur at any given moment. Thus, saving one's life, such as this woman's, can change a person's perspective about life around, as they will learn to appreciate it more because of what they just witnessed.
ReplyDeleteElders need to be more careful around dangerous machinery. Although unintentional accidents as such occur, they need to be more aware of the hazards around them. Never the less, safety fencing or a gating system should be installed where civilians cross in order to avoid accidents like this. Thank God for the dedicated officer, society can use more people like them. Certainly this person will think twice before walking near train tracks again.
ReplyDeleteThis is a remarkable story, and the police officer who saved this woman is truly a hero. T have the presence of mind to inform the train driver to stop, and then save the woman was brilliant and extremely courageous, considering that he put his own life on the line to save a complete stranger. But that it what police officers do every single day right? I guess he was just completing his civic duty. However, this occurrence has been taking place way to often lately all around the world, therefore there should be some protective measures being taken in all train stations whether it is in America or anywhere else.
ReplyDeleteThis is amazing news because at the end the lady was rescued by the officer. This officer is a hero because if he did not happen to be at the right place at the right time the lady would have died in a matter of seconds. Elders need to be more cautious and alert especially around vehicles or fast moving trains because they are not as fast, therefore they will not be able to dodge it as fast. The officer was smart and alert by calling the train as fast as he could in order to prevent it from hitting the lady.
ReplyDeleteSubway stations have become dangerous and life threatening to the general public. With the world suffering of overpopulation and numerous citizens trying to attend to their daily activities, taking the subway has become efficient. The woman from Spain was fortunate. Her life was to be taken away because of a single fall. Luckily, she was surrounded by officers who helped her escape from a near-death experience. This incident shows society of how one's life can be easily taken away in a blink of an eye. She should feel grateful that she was saved and immediately taken care of. Though subways serve as a common purpose of an individual's daily commute, all stations should be supervised at all times, as well as having the tracks barricaded by establishing a barrier that separates the individual from the subway entrance door.
ReplyDeleteIt is such great news to hear that someone was able to have the chance of living, when they were easily close to dying. With the trains speed, the woman could have easily died in a minute. What the police officer did is definitely a heroic act and hopefully other people will take this as an example. Subway stations can indeed be a dangerous place and many deaths have occurred within the busy people rushing to their destinations. This situation should be enough to take action for everyone's safety.
ReplyDeleteI have always been told to check twice before crossing train tracks, just in case a train happened to pass by. There have been various incidents where innocent people died due to trains. The officer was smart in his decision. If he had gone to pick her up, both the officer and the woman would not be alive now. It was a kind and wise idea and he will surely be thanked and appreciated for it.
ReplyDeleteIt is extremely relieving to know that there was an off-duty police officer around the area to see the poor lady's body. It is very strange of the woman to randomly faint at the least expected time, unless she has medical problems. Almost all police officers could be considered heroes, but the one in this situation was truly like an angel sent to save the woman's life.
